What do your categories say your records program is for?
Classification is something that we do every day without even having to think about it.
Food.
Dangerous.
Friend.
It all happens without us having to think about it - and how we classify things determines how we act.
Classification doesn't work without categories though.
Food is a category for things we can eat.
Dangerous is a category for things we should stay away from.
Friend is a category for people we know, like and trust.
Records management has its own approach to categories.
We have categories for retention - and when we use them it says that our program is for retention.
When we have functions, activities and transactions, it says that our records program is for our organistion.
Records management has a huge problem with end-user engagement and action.
