The records management order of operations
The questions people ask can tell you everything about their level of sophistication, how they think about the value of records, and what you can expect records to be when they are delivering it.
To the unsophisticated (but likely still extremely competent), it's "how do we manage our records?"
To the more sophisticated, it's "what to record" then "how do we mange what we have recorded?"
To those who understand the game they are playing, and what records is for, it's "What results do our organisations want?” Followed by “what do we need to record, at what level of quality and for whom in order to achieve it?"
There are probably intermediary questions - but you get the point.
The only real question to figure out where you want to be in this spectrum (it is a choice) is how much of a gain do you want records to produce in your organisation?
Followed closely by what are you prepared to take responsibility for?
So many organisations treat records as though it's basically value-less, because records insists on only taking responsibility for the least of the value that records can deliver.
If we want our organisations to value records more, we just have to take responsibility for delivering more value.
Simple.
